On top of Mount Faber: Spuds and Aprons

not bad as dinner view?
TheDrinkingSociety invited for a flow of Bombay Saphire, which was the reason for me to attend, no matter what venue. In the end, the venue turned out to be a huge winner. Spuds and Aprons might be assumed to be an upper class tourist spot due to its exposed location on top of Mount Faber with breathtaking view over Sentosa into the Indonesia islands. Whereas it is true that many tourists dine there, the prices are still reasonable, the food is hearty and generous in portions, and the freshly made desserts are to die for. |
We arrived at the perfect time, short past 6, when the sun was still lighting up the al fresco dining area in deep yellow and made our first rounds of gin shine like crystals. Simple starters of fries and garlic bread were unpretentious with good dips. The main dishes were very tasty, especially the cod in wasabi mayonnaise, the super crispy skin of Jill's pork belly, and a well seasoned skin of my chicken leg. Amanda's salmon was slightly dry but still good in taste. We were all totally amazed by the two desserts: the bowl of happiness was some delicious vanilla ice-cream on fantastic caramel, and the banana-na had the established combo of banana and chocolate taste, also with caramel, and strawberries: absolutely heavenly!
I had 7 gins, really made use of that flow, and not lastly because the service was very welcoming. Several waiters offered a new drink as soon as the old one came to an end. The chef passed by our table and asked if we were happy with the food, which is for me always a highly appreciated gesture in a restaurant. When we came to the end of our free flow hour, several waiters were really concerned if we had still ordered on time, and one of them, might have been in a management position (and I remember him because when we entered he called out already in a super welcoming way if we are from TheDriningSociety) gave us one more round for all even after happy hour time.
So food wise, drink wise, service wise it was a really successful evening; company wise, too, just look at my charming friends. But now, see for yourself: THE VIEW!!!! All these goodies while overseeing Sentosa, the cable cars, the big ships parking in the harbour, looking until Batam and Bintan at the end of the horizon, the harbour cranes like animal silhouettes in the breathtaking sunset - what more does one wish for.
Now you all, pack your boyfriend, girlfriend, and bring them up there. I heard, here and there some people get lucky on Mount Faber :)
